After my initial training in the north-west of England I started working professionally in 1985. In 1986 I became Co-ordinator if Off The Record Youth Counselling Service in Swindon and in 1988 moved to Somerset where I worked with drug users and those with HIV. In 1993 I transferred into private practice and in 1995 was appointed as Practice Counsellor for two GP surgeries (in Taunton and Somerton), which I continued until 2002. Other appointments as a counsellor include (1995) Student Counsellor at the Royal Holloway College, Egham, Surrey (part of the University of London).
Professional Training
In 1992 I gained an M.Sc. in Counselling, Supervision & Training at the University of Bristol. In 1999 I became a Certified Trainer for the EQ Map (Emotional Intelligence Profiling, Q-Metrics, USA) and in 2004 I became a Graduate of the evidence-based Authentic Happiness Coaching Programme (USA), run by Professor Martin Seligman - the foundation course in Positive Psychology at the time.
Training Positions
From 1992 to 2004 I was a Core Tutor for the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, University of Bristol (B.A.C.P. Accredited Course). From 1993 to 2011 I was Core Tutor for the training of Army Unit Welfare Officers (UWO) and developed and managed a nationally accredited qualification: The Certificate in Welfare Skills (awarded by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body - CPCAB).
Procounsel Associates Ltd
In 1996 I established this human relations consultancy and all of my work for organisations, SME’s and family businesses have been as Principal Consultant for Procounsel. My motivation in my consultancy work is based on my interest in developing strengths-based organisations and businesses.
